Dealing with ants

If you have toddlers or children at home, then surely there is bound to be unwanted guests at your home “ANTS”. They are a nuisance to mankind but there are many tried and tested ways in which you can surely get rid of them without any trouble.

However, first you must remember that the root cause of ants in your house is leftover food, water or anything that can help them survive. If you have pots in your house or a garden then they are sure to thrive there. So the first thing that you must do is maintain a clean and hygienic environment. The garbage should be kept in a tight box and see that ants cannot enter the box.

Keep your food in air tight containers and do not keep any uncovered food in the kitchen. Ants do require water to survive and if you have any water that can attract ants, get rid of it. Get rid of all the cracks in your house too. Ants do enter through cracks. There are many methods to eliminate ants, but if your house is dirty then all the methods you use to eliminate ants will go in vain. So first and foremost, maintain a clean and hygienic house, especially the kitchen.

One of the safest way to get rid of ants is by dissolving 2-4 teaspoons of sugar in a cup of water. Now take some paper tissues and soak them in this sugar-water solution. Keep these papers overnight on your kitchen sink. This is one way to trap all the ants in the morning the next day.

Take equal parts of vinegar and water, put it into a sprayer and spray it on the windowsills, cabinets or cracks or any other places from where the ants originate. You can even try pouring pepper powder or turmeric powder on the ant trails. They will soon disappear. You can pour lemon juice or keep lemon rinds just outside your door or the place where the ants enter your home. Chalk powder, talcum powder and even salt can keep the ants at bay. You can even apply petroleum jelly on the rims of your pet’s food bowls to keep ants away.

You can even spray insecticides along the perimeter of your house but be careful that your children are away. If you do this, ants will not enter the house. Ants are known to be attracted to sweet liquid, so you can take boric acid mix it with honey and heat it till it dissolves. Then you can add water and then put it in the places where the ants visit the most. There are many ways to get rid of ants, but they will keep visiting your house if there is any leftover food or water or anything that the ants can consume.

So what is a permanent method to get rid of the ants? You should try and kill the queen ant. She is responsible for producing the thousands of ants that cause havoc in your house. The queen ant normally can be found in the ant's nest. The queen generally hides at the bottom so you have to destroy the entire nest and get rid of the queen. But that can be really difficult to do especially if you stay in an apartment or flat complex.

Wipe all the tables and the counter tops regularly with a very mild bleach or vinegar solution. Try to clean, mop and sweep the floors regularly especially if there are children who keep dropping the food anywhere and everywhere. So the most important step to keep ants from an arms distance is to maintain a clean house, with all the food in air tight containers and seal all the cracks and you will soon realize that these constant visitors( ants) are now extinct.
